Introduction

WebDrop is a high-performance, decentralized file sharing engine built for the modern web. It enables lightning-fast data movement directly between hardware interfaces.

How to Use the Application

WebDrop allows users to transfer files directly between devices over the local network. By leveraging WebRTC, files are moved directly between hardware interfaces and are never stored on any server, ensuring maximum privacy and speed.

Step 1: Launch App

When you load the website, click the Launch App button located in the header or the hero section.

Input Requirements

  • Organization Name (The isolation key)
  • Device Name (Your visible identity)

Step 2: Organization Name

The Organization Name acts as the isolation key. Only users who enter the exact same organization name will be able to discover each other and establish a connection. Users from different organizations remain completely invisible to each other.

Home Example

Key: home-network

Used by: phone, laptop, tablet, PC

Office Example

Key: company-private

Used by: PC1, PC2, PC3, PC4

Step 3: Device Name

Your Device Name is required and serves to identify your device in the shared list. It's how your colleagues or your other devices will recognize you.

Examples: Mohit-PC, Vikram-Laptop, Office-PC1, Mobile-Phone

Step 4 & 5: Discovery & Connection

After entering your details, you will see a list of active devices that belong to your organization. Select the device you wish to communicate with to establish a secure link. Once the session is active, you can begin sending files.

Instant Handshake

Discovery is real-time. If a device enters your organization, they will appear in your list immediately.

Step 6: One-to-One Rule

To maintain high throughput and security, connections are strictly one-to-one.

Device A◀▶Device B|Device C (Busy)

If Device A connects to Device B, they can exchange files freely. However, while this active connection exists, Device B cannot accept new requests from Device C or D.

Direct Device Transfer

Our system utilizes a direct device-to-device bridge for all file movements.

No Servers

Files are never uploaded. We only coordinate the initial meeting.

Direct Bridge

Transfers happen via an encrypted bridge between hardware.

Privacy First

Fast, private, and completely transparent data flow.
